When Salzburg feels like Italy.

An manchen Sommertagen hat Salzburg mit seinen engen Gassen und der barocken Architektur einen so mediterranen Flair, dass man sich in Italien glaubt. Dann liebe ich meine Wahlheimat gleich noch ein bisschen mehr. Alles ist aufgeweckt und voller Leben und man findet trotzdem mitten in der Stadt ruhige Zufluchtsorte. Uns zieht es an solchen Tagen immer wieder an den Almkanal, der aus dem Königssee im benachbarten Berchtesgaden entspringt und über die Königsseeache schließlich in der Salzach mündet. Der Almkanal fließt mitten durch Salzburg und ist selbst im Hochsommer eiskalt – für manche zu kalt, für mich aber genau richtig, denn ich liebe das Wasser und die Temperatur ist höchstens eine Challenge. Für so einen Sommertag ist mein Baumwollkleid von H&M mit Spitzendetails (leider vom letzten Jahr – aber ich habe euch unten einige Alternativen verlinkt) wie gemacht. Es liegt leicht auf der Haut, lässt sich schnell und einfach abstreifen, wenn man zwischendurch eine Abkühlung braucht und sieht trotzdem nicht so sehr nach Strand aus. Sandalen, Sonnenbrille und mein liebster Strohkorb (vom Schrannenmarkt) dazu und das Sommer-Outfit ist komplett!

On some hot summer days in the city one could nearly think to be in Italy, when you walk through Salzburg, with it’s narrow streets and the baroque architecture. In moments like these I love my new home even more. Everything is full of life and you can still find quiet places in the middle of the city. On these days we always go swimming in the Almkanal, which originates in the Bavarian Königssee and flows into the Salzach. The Almkanal goes straight through Salzburg and is ice-cold, even in the midsummer – some say it’s too cold, but for me it’s just right. I love water and the temperature is only a challenge to me. That’s when my lace-cotton-dress from H&M is just the right choice (it’s from last year, but I found some great alternatives for you). It’s light against your skin and you can easily take it off whenever you need to cool down. I also like the fact that it doesn’t really look like a beach dress, but may be worn like one. With my sandals, sunglasses and my straw basket (from the Schrannenmarkt) my summer-outfit is completed.
